The Artemis Trail
A high circular walk around the summit of Mount Olympus, the roof of Cyprus.
The Artemis Trail loops around the upper slopes of Chionistra — Mount Olympus, the highest point in Cyprus at 1,952 metres — through black pine and juniper, with wide views in every direction and old mining scars along the way.
What you'll see
- Views over much of the island from around 1,900 metres
- Ancient black pines and endemic golden oak
- The scars of the old chromium mine workings
- Cool mountain air even at the height of summer
- A blanket of snow across the same slopes in winter

The walk
A near-level circular path rings the summit — easy underfoot but long, with a few rocky sections — giving constantly changing views as you round the mountain. Allow two to three hours at a relaxed pace.
Getting there
From Troodos Square, drive up toward the summit; the trailhead and parking are signed off the road to Chionistra. Get directions →
Good to know before you go
It is high and exposed, so bring a layer even in summer; it is not suitable in winter snow without proper gear. Carry water and sun protection.
