Ancient Kourion
A Greco-Roman city on the cliffs, where a theatre still looks out to sea.
Kourion is one of Cyprus's grandest ancient sites — a city-kingdom set on a bluff west of Limassol, with a restored Greco-Roman theatre, richly patterned floor mosaics and sweeping views over the coast. A gentle walk links the highlights across the open hilltop.
What you'll see
- The Greco-Roman theatre, still used for summer performances
- The House of Eustolios, with its mosaics and bath complex
- The early Christian basilica
- The House of the Gladiators and its mosaic floors
- Clifftop views over Episkopi Bay

The walk
A gentle circuit around the site links the theatre, the mosaic houses and the basilica along paved and gravel paths across open ground. There is little shade, so take it slowly — allow an hour or two to see it properly.
Getting there
About 15 minutes west of Limassol near Episkopi, signed off the B6, with a car park and visitor centre at the entrance (there is an admission fee). Get directions →
Good to know before you go
There is very little shade, so bring a hat, water and sun cream, and wear sturdy shoes for the uneven ground. The theatre hosts concerts and plays through the summer.
