The Persephone Trail
An easy walk from Troodos Square to a cliff-edge viewpoint over the southern slopes.
The Persephone, or Persefoni, trail is the gentlest of the Troodos walks — a straight, well-shaded forest path from Troodos Square to the Makria Kontarka viewpoint, where the mountain falls away toward the distant south coast.
What you'll see
- The panoramic Makria Kontarka viewpoint at the end
- Centuries-old black pines and endemic golden oak
- An easy, well-marked path that suits families
- Mountain flora and birdsong along the way
- Cool forest shade for most of the route

The walk
From just south of Troodos Square the path runs three kilometres through the forest to the viewpoint, then returns the same way — flat and easy, about two hours there and back.
Getting there
The trail starts 150 metres south of Troodos Square; park in the square and walk to the signed trailhead. Get directions →
Good to know before you go
Easy and family-friendly, but it is an out-and-back, so allow for the return walk; bring water. It is lovely in the spring wildflower season.
