Pissouromoutti Nature Trail
A short climb to an Akamas summit crowned with a full sweep of peninsula and sea.
Sharing its trailhead with the Smigies trail above Neo Chorio, Pissouromoutti is a quick, rewarding loop through the low, ancient landscape of the Akamas. It climbs gently to a summit at around 406 m where the whole peninsula, its coastline and the open Mediterranean lay out before you, often with Chrysochou Bay glinting in the distance. The scrubby, geology-rich terrain feels quite unlike the pine forests elsewhere on the island.
What you’ll see
- 360-degree summit views over the Akamas and sea
- Distinctive low shrubland and ancient rock
- Shared trailhead with the Smigies loop
- Quiet, uncrowded and family-friendly
- Rich birdlife and wildflowers in spring
The walk
From the Smigies picnic area follow the signs for Pissouromoutti and climb steadily through open, aromatic scrub over rocky ground. The gradient is gentle and the effort short, and within half an hour or so you reach the summit where views burst open across the peninsula and out to sea. Take your time at the top before completing the loop back down to the picnic site, ideally pairing it with the neighbouring Smigies circuit.
Getting there
Same start as Smigies: the picnic site 2.5 km up the track from Neo Chorio, with parking and water. Get directions →
Good to know before you go
It is short but fully exposed to sun and wind at the top, so bring water and a hat; spring brings the best wildflowers.
